Doric Quartet

Programme

Mozart: String Quartet in Bb, K.589
Britten: String Quartet No.3

This recital at the Wigmore Hall showed just why the Doric Quartet has recently been attracting so much praise.  From the technical standpoint the players are superb but, beyond that, they blend together as though of one mind - the touchstone of any such group. (www.classicalsource.com).

Programme

Suk: Elegy Op.8
Tchaikovsky: Trio for Piano and Strings in A minor, Op.50

Beyond the players' individual gifts, what impressed most was the group's effortless musicianship and unity of thought and attack.  The threesome even seemed to be breathing in sync: a quality especially beneficial in the Tchaikovsky's long and intricate tapestry. (The Times).

Mahan Esfahani, harpsichord

Programme

Bach: Goldberg Variations

The ideal interpreter of Bach's astonishing genius...

The harpsichord as an interpretive instrument never sounded so expressive.  Mahan Esfahani's wondrous technique, musicality and intensity of concentration made for an enthralling evening.  (Halifax Courier)

“This is a disc I’ve wanted to hear ever since I first heard Esfahani play the Goldbergs back in 2010. The intensity and virtuosity are every bit as evident here as then, and the instrument sounds beautiful.”  – Martin Cullingford, Gramophone (Editor’s Choice)
