Tetsuumi Nagata (viola)

Tetsuumi Nagata hails from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island.  He began studying the violin at the age of five. When he was twelve, he was awarded a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School and continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.  Subsequently, he has performed throughout the UK, Europe and abroad at venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus, Vienna.

He has collaborated with Ian Bostridge, Michael Collins, Julius Drake, Alexander Rudin and the Belcea and Vogler Quartets.  Tetsuumi is currently sub-principal viola with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has also been guest principal with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, English National Opera, the Aurora and Philharmonia Orchestras.

In 2017, Tetsuumi joined the Piatti Quartet, one of this country’s leading ensembles.  Members of the LIMF audience will remember their brilliant concert at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery in 2022.  Some may also recall our first concert after Covid at Nevill Holt, when Testuumi joined Jack Liebeck, Ashok Klouda, Danny Driver, and Meera Maharaj in Nicholas Daniel’s ensemble.
