Born in Taiwan, Ting-Ru Lai enjoys a wide range of musical activities as a violist. She is a member of the Eusebius String Quartet and the Britten Oboe Quartet and regularly takes part in chamber music festivals including Utrecht, Sion, Belfast, Leicester, Winchester and many more. She has appeared with artists such as Janine Jansen, Nobuko Imai, Garth Knox, Nicholas Daniel, Lawrence Power, Timothy Ridout, Boris Brovtsyn and Clara-Jumi Kang. As a chamber musician, she’s played in concert halls such as Wigmore Hall, Barbican Center, Kölner Philharmonie, TivoliVredenburg, National Music Auditorium Madrid, and Jordan Hall.
From 2019 to 2022, she held a position as sub-principal viola at the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since leaving the LPO she has played regularly with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Aurora Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and has also been invited as guest principal viola with The Philharmonia and Manchester Camerata.
Ting-Ru studied at the New England Conservatory with Dimitri Murrath and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Takeno. Other teachers and mentors include Hsin-Yin Huang and Nobuko Imai.
