LEICESTER INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 2012 - The Art of Music
This year's Leicester International Music Festival will be held on 13-16 September at New Walk Museum.
Artistic Director Nicholas Daniel says:
'The theme of the 2012 Festival is The Art of Music.
This year we feature the music of seven brilliant composers: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven and contemporary composers Michael Berkeley, Jonathan Harvey, David Matthews and Sven Ingo Koch.
In each programme we will have a Haydn String Quartet played by the Carducci Quartet and mixed chamber works by Beethoven and Mozart played by the Festival Ensemble. Then I shall join the Carduccis to play four works by living composers. Firstly a World Première for Oboe and String Quartet by Sven Ingo Koch, one of the brightest up and coming stars on the German music scene; a second performance of Michael Berkeley's new Oboe Quintet; Jonathan Harvey's masterpiece Death of Light, Light of Death; and, finally, David Matthews' brilliant concertino based on Titian's The Flaying of Marsyas . All these works have been inspired by art, ranging from Tarkovsky to Grunewald. '
